Thrifty!

Photo by karafinaI have a new project I am working on and I think that it will be fun for everyone. It is called Thrifty!

I am looking for people who are willing to have their photo taken in my studio. It does not matter if you think of yourself as a model or not. It is more important that you will have fun and enjoy having your picture taken.

Here are the details:

The "models" (you?) are to go to a thrift store and buy three outfits to be photographed in.

These are the "Thrifty" rules:

  1. Only one trip to one thrift store is allowed. Once you decide to go in you must commit to that store. No looking around and then leaving and trying again later or a different store.
  2. Spend no more than $30.00. Less if you can. I will reimburse you. I would like to keep the clothes as well but that is negotiable.
  3. Get three outfits. You can define these as your personality and the stores price/availability of items dictates but you must get three outfits that meet these criteria:
    1) Dressy 2) Casual 3) Sexy

Thats it! Sounds fun doesnt it? If you are interested or have any questions please post comments below.

Trying New Things

If you are anything like me you enjoy playing with new toys. And if you are really like me you really enjoy playing with new photography toys that you cant afford to buy.

There is a way to play with that $6,000 lens. Rent it! I have tried many different online rental places and I think that I have found the best. I have used them many times and I know from experience that they are 100% into making sure their customers are happy.

The place is called BorrowLenses.com and right now is the time to try them out. Until the end of January I am allowed to offer a 10% discount on all of their rentals. No matter if you are a Cannon or Nikon user I think you will find what you are looking for.

If you are interested and would like to play with some new toys or if you just need to teporarily replace a broken or missing part, click on the banner below. Be sure to use promo code "2010" before checkout for 10% off their rental.

Columbus Crew VS FC Dallas

Columbus Crew VS FC Dallas, originally uploaded by dorn.

After hearing a lot about doing sound capture while shooting events I decided to try my hand at the whole thing. I don't hate it...

This is my first attempt and there are things that I like and things that I would like to improve upon... There are always things that I'd like to improve on. :) I am pleased with the pictures that I took of this game and I am pleased with the quality of the video output. Now all I have to do is get some better sound and get my video editing chops up to snuff.

Please comment and let me know what you think.

Columbus Crew Pictures

Photo by Dorn BygI have posted some soccer pictures taken at the most recent Columbus Crew game. Please let me know what you think. Your comments are more than welcome.

This year I have had the privilege of a press pass to Crew Stadium. I have been shooting for a local Columbus newspaper for a couple of years now. Though most my assigned were to shoot OSU sports there was some interest in the Crew after they won the MLS Cup in 2008. That resulted in me getting a pass. Shooting for a paper is great fun and I hope to not only continue doing that but shooting the Crew for a long time.

In the future I would like to try to get my foot in the door so I can shoot for some wire services. It seems to be difficult task. I have gathered that not only do you have to be a tremendous photographer but you have to know who, where and how in a perfect combination. "Who" is never clearly defined, "where" is easier to know but hard to get to and "how" is just a matter of practice and time. When mixed all together and applied to what is what is expected from you (the photographer) it makes for a hard target to hit. It will be some work but it's work that I am willing and capable of doing. I'll keep you posed as things progress.

New Studio Weeeeeee!

Space! The new fronteer...I am proud to say that I (and two others) have a studio space at Junction View Studios. It is fantastic to have a place that is dedicated to nothing but photography. Though it is a little small there are so many plusses that any complication that may arise as a result is tollerable at worst. So what are some of these plusses?

  1. The place (Junction View) is full of creatve and amazing artists that are most always hard at work.
  2. These "hard working artists" are darned cool folks.
  3. There is access 24—7.
  4. Did I mention that it is entirely dedicated to photography
  5. The other two that I am sharing the space with will teach me bunches.

There is more to the list but that's all that I have time for now and I dont want to start sounding like I am bragging. :) I would like to say Thank You to Keven Ward. You are the most swell!

Well, if you cant tell I am pretty darned excited about this. My mind is going nut with the possabilities. So! If you of someone you know whant to come get your picture taken... Bring it!
